The USA is thus far the only country outside Germany to have the VR6 derivative of the new MkIV Golf and it really makes us wonder why Volkswagen USA decided to go this route. Instead of having the 1.8-litre turbo version which is elsewhere available throughout the world, Volkswagen USA wanted to offer the American public a bigger engine. This is befitting the land of the gas guzzlers. This version you see on these pages was prepared by VW Sport USA which has been prepped with all the latest goodies from projektzwo for which VW Sport USA is a registered distributor of.

The car is equipped with projektzwo's full bodykit, which comprises a front spoiler, side skirts, rear spoiler as well as a debadged grille kit. The only other additions to this car was the eye-lids which came from Kamei. The wheels too are impressive in 18" which are projektzwo units. The interior receives a special steering wheel, gearknob and special white instrumentation. The car came with a free-flow exhaust system which was helped by a K&N air filter in the engine compartment. The guys at VW Sport informed me that the has a planned engine conversion to up the power even more. The delivers 135KW and performance is rated at 150mph and more.  The suspension has been uprated and lowered by 40mm with a progressive coil-over kit from projektzwo. It comprises shorter shocks and stiffer springs. The brakes have been uprated too and actually brings the car to a swifter and smoother standstill than the standard items. The guys from VW Sport USA were convinced that it could still be improved even with a brake-kit from Porsche. Another example from VW Sport USA already has such a brake system fitted and it really makes a difference with the added power.
